How Do I Cast My Burdens?

Cast your burdens upon the Lord and He shall sustain thee.  Psalm 55:22

I’ve never seen so much anxiety around me.  The world feels as fragile as an eggshell.  As children of God who know they can carry everything and everyone to Jesus in prayer, perhaps we need new insight this morning about casting our cares upon Jesus in ways that bring greater relief.

Some burdens are heavier than others but sometimes the weight of a single one can threaten to drown me. Throughout one single day, it’s not that heavy but when I attempt to carry it over many months, even years, my spiritual muscles give out.

Other times, it’s the accumulation of burdens that weigh me down.  Like Job, who sustained a series of losses over a long period of time, the dailyness of juggling them all was wearing.

Satan’s temptations intensify when someone is fragile.  He is like a stalker, waiting to see when God’s child is in his most vulnerable place.  Then, he brings insinuations that my trust in God is misplaced. He uses my ongoing burdens as proof.

My Christ promises to sustain me as I bring Him all my burdens and empty my heart of grief.  The promise to sustain does not mean that I will not be shaken or momentarily stagger.  It means that I will not fall into a place where there is no hope.

What is it that threatens you today?  Loss of your home, your retirement, your child’s faith, your spouse’s mental stability, your marriage, discouragement with your own lack of stamina?  Take each one in prayer, then picture putting it in your hands and casting it into the lap of your Christ.  He bore all your sorrows. No longer do any of us need to groan under the heavy burdens of life and believe no one is there to listen, help, or deliver.  Jesus promises to guard our hearts with His peace. (Philippians 4:7)  When our heart would fracture and crack into a thousand pieces, God’s whispers and His promises hold it together.  He has His hands cupped around it and nothing may shake it loose from His grip.

You are my Rock for yet another day.  In Jesus name, Amen

  1. I love this blog. We all need to remember that God wants us to give our worries to him, but it is sometimes hard to remember that.
