Giving Up My Life

For who is our hope or joy or crown of exultation?  Is it not even you, in the presence of our Lord Jesus at His coming?  I Thess. 2:19

Think of what Paul knew when he wrote this.  He did not know that this letter would ever be read by anyone outside of his generation.  He did not know that it would even reach the Thessalonians, so uncertain were the times. He did not know that He would be revered by millions across the centuries.  He could not have anticipated that his perseverance in hardship would inspire so many to trust Christ in their hard times.  All he knew was what He experienced at the moment.  Just like us.  He was being hunted down like an animal, yet in spite of such acts of hatred against him, he continued to sacrifice everything just to see another person profess Jesus as Lord of their life.

Anyone who gives up his life for God embraces a new set of values.  He gives up all hope of earthly prospects.  What matters most is passing on his faith.

This past weekend, I saw women’s faces come alive over the course of two days.  As they began to understand their call to defend the Gospel and enforce the victory of Calvary in their lives, they sat taller in their chairs.  I do not know if any who attended, who heard the teaching of Personalized Prayer Mapping, had previously led lives of quiet desperation, having abdicated their hopes in things getting any better for them or their loved ones.  Probably so.  But I venture to say that most everyone left that conference different than when they arrived. Their faith became active, their mouths engaged to use the sword of the Spirit.  I experienced just a touch of what Paul describes here.  They are part of my joy and crown of exultation.

Whatever we invest in people is not lost.  We pass on a faith that grows from a small mustard seed inside of others.  The rains of Living Water nourish the seed long after we’re gone and our legacy only strengthens.  No wonder Jesus said that ‘whoever loses his life for the Gospel will find it.’

I dedicate the rest of my life to see others made alive in You; to turn from darkness to light, from the power of Satan to God.  In Jesus’ name, Amen
