What Begets What?

WHAT BEGETS WHAT

Righteous are you O Lord, and right are your rules.  Psalm 119:137

God acts according to His nature.  He is totally consistent.  He is love and never acts cruel.  He is just and never acts unjustly.  He is faithful and never turns his back on me.  He is truthful and never speaks forked words.  He is pure and never voices concepts that are unreliable.  Character begets behavior.  Character begets strong and righteous language.

As a fallen woman, I am not so cut and dry.  I have a corrupt nature and often have to put on a good face. I am very much in touch with the inconsistency of my heart and try to do the right things even though my heart feels something completely different.   That’s because my nature, though it has been touched by God’s grace, still has pockets of imperfection, places where sin holds me momentarily captive.  I can be loving one minute and caustic the next.  I can feel compassion one day but then have moments where I feel indifferent.  If anyone puts all their trust in me to be their god, I will fail them.  If I trust anyone else to be a god to me today, they will fail me.

I don’t idolize anyone human today; I worship God.  I don’t exalt myself today; I exalt God.  Humanness begets humanness.  Only God is divine.  He is righteous; His words can be trusted.  He is righteous; His acts provide perfect security.

In this shaky world, so unpredictable, You are my safety.  You are unchanging goodness.  The concepts of Your heart are my foundation.  Amen
