Arrogance Or Humility?

ARROGANCE OR HUMILITY?

I understand more than the aged, for I keep your precepts.  Psalm 119:100

This is quite a statement.  If I heard anyone in my lifetime say something like this, I’d probably think it was out of line.  So was David humble?  Or was this a flash of arrogance?

He has already revealed in previous verses that God has been his teacher, that without God’s instruction, he would be lost.  He credits any wisdom and understanding to the work of God’s Spirit.  I can not forget what precedes this statement. This claim about possessing a stunning degree of understanding must be read in context with everything else he’s said.

It is possible to have been burned by arrogant people and, as a reaction, run from anything that sounds like arrogance.  In doing so, I fail to own what God has deposited in my spirit.  I fail to see that I have wisdom, that I can teach, that my God-given gifts are powerful to impact the kingdom, that I am a leader.  To make claims of such is not arrogance but an admission that everything I am, and have, are given to me by a God of mercy.  I don’t have what I deserve.  I have what I don’t deserve but I honor God when I credit Him for being gracious.  .

People may have been trying to tell you that are a mighty vessel for the Lord.  You thought it was your duty to disagree and feign humility.  There’s a balance.  It’s okay to own the affirmation and say, “I hear you, and I’m grateful for your affirming words but to God be the glory!”

I own what you’ve given to me.  I am purposeful to strengthen the gifting for your glory.  Amen

  1. I really didn’t agree with this post. Nevertheless, I researched in Google and I found out you are correct and I had been thinking in the improper way. Keep on publishing high quality material like this.
