Wordlessness

WORDLESSNESS

The Lord called me from the womb.  He has made my mouth like sharp sword.  Isaiah 49:1-2

God created me in my mother’s womb and brought me forth into this world to speak His Word.  His original intention for each of His creation is that they might be blessed by speaking the Word of His mouth.  When I utter Scripture, faith is born.  My passion for God is renewed.

Now, the enemy knows this.  He trembles for fear that I will truly grasp the power of God’s Word.  He is afraid that I will see both the internal and external results of such a discipline.  What would be his counter attack?  To steal words.  To make me mute.  To send me to a place of wordlessness.

Oh, how he has done that.  When I was seven years old, I remember making the decision to start curbing my words.  As I got older, the quieter I became.  In my thirties, while suffering from a time of extreme depression, I lost words altogether.  I lived a few years almost silent.  When those close to me asked, “Where are you?”  I replied, “In my well of wordlessness.”  If only I had known the antidote of today’s scripture.

Maybe you are in a place today where you can’t even cry out for help.  Words of praise and exclamations of faith elude you.  To even think of speaking them seems impossible.  Let me assure you that ‘wordlessness’ is an illusion of the enemy.  We are never without words, just without belief that we are destined to speak them.

I will tell you that my flesh still has a propensity to go to that wordless place when I’m in pain.  I will always feel the pull.  But, I’d like to believe I’ll never give into it again. I have experienced deliverance far too many times.

If you are without praise and are suffering silently, this is what I would ask you to do today.

  •   Remind your enemy that Jesus rebukes him.  Through the power of the cross, command him to release your tongue to speak.
  •   Ask Jesus help you get the words out.  Once you start speaking Scripture, you will find it easier and easier to continue.
  •   Read the Psalms out loud until you feel the disbelief of your soul subside and the faith of your spirit ignite.

We are not meant to be imprisoned by our flesh.  Our spirit, the place where words are plentiful and the faith of a mustard seed still lives, is meant to rule our lives.  I am praying for each of you today.  God created you, called you from the womb, and made your mouth to wield the sword of the Spirit.  When you do it, you will feel more alive than you’ve ever felt in your life.

Many will want to shake their heads today, Father, in skepticism.  Give them the courage to believe You and take Isaiah’s words to heart.  In Jesus’ name, Amen
