“I DON’T WANT YOU, GOD!”
Though they know God’s decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them. Romans 1:32
There are many reasons a person can reject God. I know some who have proclaimed themselves an atheist because they suffered a personal tragedy and couldn’t reconcile that with the presence of a loving God. Most push God away though because His Spirit convicts them of sin. Wanting their own way, they are too uncomfortable in God’s presence. He gets pushed out.
It is a sad thing when God leaves us to treasure what we want. If an unbeliever rejects the truths of God and embraces intellectual freedom, he will slide into an abyss of moral uncertainty. This kind of mind in an aged person is a frightening thing to witness. Deception has infiltrated most of his thinking, often to the point of complete delusion.
If someone else rejects God because they treasure their sin, their lives can appear to hold together for a while. But, a divergent path from God is just that. The two roads slowly lead further away from each other and the consequences are more severe with time. The sin they originally embraced conceives more and more sin until there is a wasted life. This person may even assume an immoral leadership to condone and promote the similar sins of others.
You may not be reading this today in an emotionally detached way. And believe me, I am not writing it that way! The people I’m describing may be your son, or daughter, or parent. The searing pain you feel over their condition is real and the reality of these biblical truths is all too personal. Is there hope for one who has fallen so far from God? Oh yes. As much as one can fall, he can also rise to heights to glory as he embraces Christ, turns from his sin, and is driven to become like the One who now fills His vision. We all emulate the One we worship.
How do I pray for one so lost? “God, Satan has blinded their mind. I speak Your scriptures over them, that their deception will be torn down with violence by the power of Your Word. 2 Cor.10:4 Only the grace of Your Spirit and the preaching of the Gospel over their own souls (even just done out loud in prayer), will cause Your light to shine in their darkened minds. Let them see Your glory today.”
You’ve said that no one is a hopeless cause. The lowest sinner can be Your righteous son and daughter. I stand in hope and use my mouth to speak Your Word in prayer over their darkened soul. Amen
