Never Skewed

NEVER SKEWED

The sum of your words is truth, and every one of your righteous rules endures forever. Psalm 119:160

With people, we are called upon to make judgment calls as to whether or not their track record with personal stories and interpretations of events are 100% true.  Versions of what happened to them, what they witnessed, and what others said or did can be skewed.  What is the sum total of their words?  Is it truth?  Or, might others say, “You can’t trust him/her on that subject.”

Frustration, rage, and even the need to be larger than life can cause a person to exaggerate and paint themselves as the heroine of the story.  Another person may feel the need to minimize their importance and disappear into obscurity.  Their version of the same story elevates others and discounts their own contribution.  The truth is, we often have to take others stories with a grain of salt.  We learn where they tend to stray from the truth.

Nothing is ever skewed with God.  He doesn’t proclaim His love for me on a good day and retract it when He’s in a bad mood.  He doesn’t pledge covenant love based on whether I make vows in earnest but then renege on them when I cease to hold up my end.  The sum of His words is truth.  His truth endures forever.

Upon such a foundation, I find a place of utmost security to assess situations and people in my life.  The wisdom God offers through His Word is always reliable.  It is a place to plant my feet when truth is hard to find, when the climb is steep and the footholds in craggy rocks seem unsure.  I will find that, when standing in His truth, my feet will not slip and His Word will not fail me in the most tenuous of times.

In shifting sand, Your words are my lifeline.  Amen
